![]() Villiger Harris created a Walt Disney pumpkin in 2014-her first year carving for the Louisville Spectacular. The pumpkin, which took her roughly a week to draw and carve, was placed on the National Geographic section of the trail. Villiger Harris recreated the Ludovisi Battle sarcophagus for the 2021 Spectacular. Roughly 50,000 feet of electrical wire is used to illuminate the event’s 5,000-plus pumpkins. Villiger Harris carved a Jurassic Park pumpkin for the 2021 Louisville Jack O’Lantern Spectacular. “Always a bit scary,” Villiger Harris says when recalling her hesitancy to apply for a job through a website infamous for its scams. ![]() She landed the gig after replying to a Craigslist post. The IU Southeast grad has been carving pumpkins for the Louisville Jack O’Lantern Spectacular since 2014. “The perfect pumpkin will speak to you,” Villiger Harris, BA/BFA’13, says. She compares finding her ideal orange canvas to the scene in Christmas Vacation in which Clark Griswold finds the perfect tree. “The bigger, the better-and smooth” is Amie Villiger Harris’s definition of the perfect pumpkin. The 1,450-pound orange canvas, pictured above, depicted The Four Seasons, a 16th-century sculpture series by Jean Goujon. In 2019, Villiger Harris worked on her largest pumpkin to date. She has been carving pumpkins for the Louisville Jack O'Lantern Spectacular since 2014. Amie Villiger Harris graduated from IU Southeast with a bachelor's degree in fine arts.
